The Orchard

Today we went on a quick adventure...
Just a short distance there is....
an apple orchard....
with a few animals....
for the kids to lay their hands on...

and pumpkins....

and more pumpkins....

and even time to catch an afternoon nap....

and take a photo with Mommy.

I wasn't exactly prepared as we went out the door...

In this colder weather...

I didn't have my babywearing down to a science.

Not Me! Monday

Okay let's see if I remember how to do this because I wouldn't never go so long without a not me post that I'd forget how to do it.

Home of the Not Me! Monday is at MckMama's blog. Check out her blog to and MckLinky up there and join us for a Not Me! Monday. It's fun! And funny! If you don't have a blog you can comment with your Not Me's here or at MckMama's if you'd like.

My weeks all seem to blend together and it seems my old ways of living have all but been abandoned.

Kelly reminded my of something I would never do....I would never be late for a very important playdate and lose the dog while loading up the kids. Then proceed to do just one loop around our block and then be on my merry way because I was unwilling to be an later than I already was. Only to come home and find her in her kennel with the door locked. Uh oh! Well, no matter....because I would never knowingly leave town, 30 minutes away, with my dog on the loose. Not me!

I am surely not a person who would wear black cotton pants that are too small (pre-pregnancy) with an ugly green shirt, white sport socks, black dress shoes and zero make-up to go and get my husband from an errand he ran. Not me! I always leave my house well presented.

Has a fruit fly or five landed in your glass of wine? You wouldn't shoo them away and then proceed to finish the glass would you? Well, not me either. I know why too, because you wouldn't even have fruit flies in your house would you? Yah, not me either! Let's just forget about the glass of wine.

So, does anybody know how to get rid of fruit flies, that is if I were to have them all over the house! But of course, not me.....because I don't. That's gross!

The Puppy & Blankie

My Mother-in-Law was simply the best MIL anyone could ask for. I could only ask to have had her for much longer than I did.

One of the gifts Karla gave Henry is his "Puppy". All the Fisher grandchildren received a Puppy & Blankie from Grandma. I am sure many other newborns in her life received one as well!

This is a picture of Harry, my husband's puppy. Just before Karla passed away and just before Henry was born Harry appeared. We were all sitting around John & Karla's house and out comes Adam's puppy. They were trying to remember his name and at one point the name Henry came out. Adam & I were not sharing our name choice so we thought it would have been really ironic if it was really named Henry. But the puppy's name was indeed Harry.

Henry hasn't taken a serious liking to his puppy but rather his blankie. I started putting it in his crib with him when he was six months old. He has one corner that he sucks on. I admit, it's not the most pleasant smelling or looking at this point. I was it all the time. I shout it and hot water wash it regularly and it doesn't matter, it ends up not so nice after just one night. Blankie has been a must have for most of his life. I am just now trying to "forget it" or "lose it." Blankie ranks right up there in need with Mommy or Daddy when there is a tear shed.

He has an exact copy of blankie that I got just in case we lost the original. He doesn't like that one and has only a few times accepted it at night because the original was missing. Original Grandma Fisher blankie is called "Wet Blankie" uh yes, because it's wet. And then the second one is called "Soft Blankie" and has recently been called "Soft, wet blankie."

These two pictures were taken in May '08 when we were on our annual Memorial Weekend camping trip.

I took this one this morning.

Just Catching Up

We haven't been up to very much lately. I thought I would just say a few things quick.

I was on this big kick to make sure I got the kids out of the house a couple of times this week. Earlier in the week we went to MckMama's house for a large group playdate. The playdate was really nice and so is her house. There was plenty to eat and my friend Amanda made a really awesome cake (I tasted the kids frosting when I was cleaning them up!). She bakes like nobodies business. I wish I had a picture to show you but I was too busy making sure Karley was okay. See, she would leave my side and then when she realized she wasn't next to me she would cry her big crocodile tears. I am sure there will be pictures flying around soon of this beautiful cake because it was photographed. It was a great time and Henry asked for two days straight....are we going to Jennifer's house? When I asked him if he had fun playing with the kids he said, "Yes, and there were girls there". I am taking that to mean he really enjoyed playing with Mama Bear's little girl.

We managed to get out again on Thursday. I was so proud of myself.....I loaded all three and we went to Best Buy to get a new printer/all in one. We weren't exactly happy with HP anymore and that was pretty much all Costco had so we thought we'd try Best Buy.

Now I should back up a little bit. Henry & Karley have been having some trouble listening and holding on to my hand while going on walks. They were so good. I suppose it was mostly because I truly believe Henry knows how to "get away" with things when I am tending to the baby. So, the listening and hand holding while I was a baby wearing Mama have gone by the wayside. My remedy was to put them in the double stroller. GREAT! So let me just tell you on our last walk to the post office....I was huffing and puffing by the time I got there. I am so out of shape. Granted, I was carry an extra 10 of my own, a baby who probably weighs about 12 and then pushing 70+ up the hill. I guess you could say six weeks post op that I was doing pretty well. So am I ready for PX90? We'll see. Right now I'll just keep walking in the pitch black of night with my neighbor!

Back to my Best Buy trip....

My new method of taking the kids out by myself is to put Henry & Karley in the stroller all buckled in! Then I become the baby wearing Mama that I've always wanted to be! I think the people in Best Buy thought I was crazy. Let me just tell you that I was very impressed with Best Buy in Minnetonka! I had a very very helpful sales woman pick out just the right printer for us. She patiently waited while I called Adam to make sure the one I was getting was good for him. Then she carried it up to the check-out for me (remember, I am wearing and pushing). The check-out lady said she would put the printer aside until I could drive up. Then when I did drive up....the guy who sits at the door when you come in....well, he came out and loaded the printer up for me! All this was without me asking for any help! That's what I like!

I did it! I was so proud of myself. I actually ran an errand! For all those readers out there with three + kids you are probably laughing at me as this is old hat for you. I am sure at some point (hopefully soon) this will be old hat for me too!

Now guess what? In the mail that day we got a coupon book from have basically the same printer by another manufacturer (not HP) for $100 less. Guess what? The printer that I haven't even taken out of the Suburban, well, it's going back. $100 that's too much to not return the Best Buy printer. All that for, well, just the experience of getting out.

Oh well.

I was going to take the littles to "Drop in and Play" at the school the next town over on Friday morning but there's been such an outbreak of H1N1 over there that I didn't dare. I mean it's a school. Do I really want to take the risk? No not really! Yes, I am paranoid but it's a lot of work with these three already. I have long days and it would only be worse if one, two , three or me were sick. So yes, I am paranoid and we stayed home. It's okay because Daddy came home early and we all had our own playdate.

So are you taking your kids to places you know to be highly contagious? Are you changing any of your outings because of H1N1, the Flu or any other icks that are going around? Let me know your thoughts.

I think next week we'll go to an apple orchard and maybe story time at the library.

Baby Blog Swap

I had a wonderful baby blog swap hosted by Kelly at Two Kids, a Mini Van and A Lot of Love. My partner is named Tanielle at The Polka Dot Daisy. She has an awesome blog and let me tell you....she is so creative! I wish I had half the creativity she does! Not to mention how thoughtful she was! Not only did she swap for Sophie but she also sent gifts for Henry, Karley and me! I feel ashamed that I did not have the fore site to think of this for her family!

I missed a couple items in the first photo because they had already found their "home".

Here's a rundown.....

Cloth Diapers - Karley has already taken them for her baby!
Headband - Karley has already worn it to a special playdate.
Gee...who was this for?
Rattle - Henry & Karley think it belongs to them.
Travel toiletries - Henry & Karley think the lotion is for them.
Hair Clips - ahhh...Karley can't wear yet as she doesn't have enough hair.
Onesie - What do you know I just happen to put it on Sophie today....picture above and modeling below.
And the grand finale for Sophie.....
This hand made BEAUTIFUL changing pad. It's so beautiful. I can't believe it! I love it so much! I even pulled it out at my special play date with a bunch of fellow bloggers. They all loved it! Inside the pocket was a travel size of diaper wipes.

And for Henry...
LIZARDS! I could only find one for the photo....the rest are slithering around our house!

And for Karley....
This lovely little purse....she loves it!

And for me....
In the photo you can see some body spray....smells wonderful....and when I put it on....Karley says, "Mine". That means she wants some too!
And in the photo with the purse is a To Do List withe magnet. Funny....I just (I am totally serious) used up the one I had. Perfect timing!

I also had to add the tags for each gift.....because Tanielle has a really cool font she prints by her own hand! Her tags are creative, her card for me, her label on the BOX for goodness sake! I am so impressed!

I think I have a few lessons to learn in the creativity department!

I can't say thank you enough Tanielle!

And thanks to Kelly for putting this all together!

Two Requested Recipes

A dear friend and blog reader requested two recipes from me. I made these two things, among many other items, for brunch after Sophie's Baptism. Sorry I don't have pictures but try it out....they are good.

Zucchini Bread

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 beaten egg
1 cup sugar
1 cup finely shredded, unpeeled zucchini
1/4 cup cooking oil
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

1. Grease the bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of an 8x4x2 inch loaf pan: set aside. In a medium bowl combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg. Make a well in center of flour mixture; set aside.

2. In another medium bowl combing egg, sugar, zucchini, and oil. Add zucchini mixture all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened (batter should be lumpy). Fold in nuts. Spoon batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50-55 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire race for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap and store overnight before slicing.

Apple Bread: Prepare as above, except substitute 1 1/2 cups finely shredded, peeled apple for the shredded zucchini.

This was taken from the Better Homes and Garden Cook Book. A must have for every kitchen because it has a lot of basic things. Things that I refer back to all the time!

Wedding Brunch Bake

1/2 large load day old French Bread
3 Tbsp melted butter
1 lb shredded Monterrey jack cheese
1/4 lb ham or salami (julienned)
10 eggs
1 1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup white wine
3 large green onions minced
2 tsp Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp red pepper flakes
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
10 oz chopped spinach (squeezed dried)
8 oz mushrooms (optional)

Grease 9x13 pan. Spread torn pieces of bread on bottom, drizzle with butter. Sprinkle Monterrey jack cheese and ham. Sprinkle spinach and mushrooms on top of cheese. In bowl beat eggs, milk wine, onion, mustard and pepper until frothy. Pour over everything. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove 30 minutes before baking. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour covered. Stir Parmesan cheese and sour cream together. Spread on top and bake 10 minutes longer.

This was served by my Mom's friends for the day after our wedding for all our guests. It was so yummy!

Daddy was giving Karley a time out because she was throwing a fit to get her jammies on. She was crappie flopping all over the floor and in his arms all while crying. So finally Daddy says, "I'm going to have to break you Karley". Of course he meant break her, ah shall we say spirit. Henry was very concerned and came running to her and told Daddy, "Don't break her!" Henry had to make sure with such concern that Daddy wasn't actually breaking her.

Henry and I were laying in our bed for his nap. We were looking into each others eyes when he asked me, "What's in there"? My reply, "Well hunny those are my eyes (he knows what eyes are). He said, "No Mommy, it's me in there". I thought that was so cute that he was looking at his reflection in my eyes.

Me, "Come on you guys!?" They must have been "doing" something. Henry says, "Where are we going"?

Adam has been working a lot which means sometimes he leaves before the kids wake up and sometimes he gets home after the kids have gone to bed. That's been what it's been like since about a week after Sophie was born. So Henry said to me as we were on our front deck, "Mom, we are a family and we live here". "Yes, hunny", my reply. Then he says, "And Dad comes here right?" "Well, hunny, Dad lives here too". Funny and sad at the same time.

Uh oh sky bo

(Uh oh Spaghetti O's)

Henry had just come out of his bed for only the first time and we didn't exactly get him right back in. I was sitting on one couch with Henry and Adam was sitting on the other. Here's the conversation:

Daddy: Henry

Daddy: Henry

Daddy: Henry

You get the picture here???

Daddy: Henry

Henry: Daddy, why are you Henrying me?

Every time we pass a car wash Henry asks: Are we going to the Wash Kosh?

Sophie's Baptism

Yesterday was a very special day for our family. We had our daughter Sophie Marie baptized. It was a wonderful day! I held back tears as I listened to our priest say her name and welcome her to our Christ Community.

She was beautiful!
Her dress was beautiful!

Her Godparents have beautiful hearts!

My family is beautiful!

Her cake was beautiful!

And the most important thing.....
we hope as her parents and Godparents...
to give her a beautiful faith...
in God.

My First Solo Outing

I had my first solo outing last Monday...
with the kids....
guess where we went?
Sophie slept the entire time!

"Sissy" as Henry called her...
enjoyed the slide.....

As did Henry....

They were good...
everything went off without a hitch....
or I should say a meltdown...
or crappie flop!

I was actually a little proud of myself! :)
